"Bath Salt" Urine Drug Test (Panel P80) expanded to include seven next-generation drugs. 05/14/12
Effective May 14, 2012, Redwood Toxicology Laboratory (RTL) will expand the Designer Stimulant Urine Test Panel (P80) to include 7 newer generation drugs, including Buphedrone, Flephedrone, Pentedrone, Pentylone, a-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone (a-PVP), 4-methylethcathinone, and Eutylone. Although a federal emergency ban on three so-called "bath salt" drugs was enacted in late 2011, newer unregulated chemicals continue to surface. According to the National Conference on State Legislatures, twelve states have already banned one or more of these next-generation drugs, and a federal ban is likely imminent.
RTL customers will receive analysis of a total of 21 designer stimulants, including the 14 original drugs and 7 newly added drugs. Customers will not incur any additional cost and the testing technology will remain the same (GC/MS).
As the premier pioneering lab in establishing testing for designer drugs, RTL is well-aware that the analysis of synthetic stimulants is a moving target, since nefarious "drug chemists" continually develop new drugs that achieve the same subjective effects as banned drugs. However, through scientific analysis of hundreds of urine specimens, as well as observed changes to drug positivity rates, RTL verifies the extensive manufacture and use of many unregulated chemicals. As a result of this research, RTL is adding the 6 frequently identified designer stimulants to the P80 panel.
With RTL's expanded 21-compound drug test, positivity rates will be higher and clients will gain greater confidence in designer drug detection. RTL's designer stimulant test panel that targets 3 DEA banned substances (P81) will remain unchanged.
